Big Weekend on Cape!

What a fun, fish filled weekend on Cape! The plan was to trailer down early Friday am and fish upper buzzards bay from boat with some buddy's. Then spend Saturday fishing the cheeky tournament from shore and finish of the weekend off with a Sunday Buzzards Bay charter. The weather wasn't going to cooperate but life isn't perfect and I like to role with the punches. So we launch in upper buzzards bay, Friday am. We were greeted by a stiff northeastern wind at 20mph with gusts to 30mph. Not perfect, but do able The current was running west bound so it kept the stack low, 2-3 footers. In minutes we were in the fish with larger bass blowing 9 inch herring out of the water. These fish were a bit picky and we hopped from pod to pod until we found cooperative fish. We then started hooking up on 1.5oz bone Hogy pro tails. We also dropped our leader down to 15lb. This lead to hook up after hook up with bass from 20-29inchs. The further south we ran the more life we encountered. Finally we made the call to go big and busted out the 9 inch DOC's. This change kept the schoolies at bay just long enough to find the bigger boys and we started to land fish in the 30-30 inch bracket on top water. We kept this up until 8:30am when the tide changed to east bound. Like a switch it went to 5-8 foot sea's and we were getting bounced around like a ping pong ball. I made the decision to call it and we made the long and painful ride back to the ramp.

The following morning I fished the cheeky fly fishing schoolie tournament. This was a frikin blast! 450 like minded anglers, the largest fly tournament in the world. I fished the south side with several of my client's. We found active fish at all 3 spots we fished. I wound up with 17 fish from 14-23 inches. Small white fat head flies did the trick. Cheeky also threw a awesome pre and after party! I drank a bit to much!

I had to scrub Sunday's trip due to high winds out of the south, safety first!

Looking forward to seeing larger fish moving in!

Tight Lines!
